Kangerlussuaq which means “Long Fjord” is situated next to the world’s third largest fjord bearing its name. Once an American military base called Sondre Stromfjord, Kangerlussuaq is now a wonderful base for adventure. One of the most popular excursions is a musk ox photo safari that takes you across the landscape to see some of these 5,000 wild and woolly animals that graze locally. Kangerlussuaq is also only 15 miles to the edge of the ice cap.
Explore the modern Greenlandic town north of the Polar Circle and experience the unique Disko Bay. Calving glaciers and gigantic icebergs: Majestic icebergs are situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ilulissat Ice Fjord right outside the town and can be experienced at close range on our Midnight Cruises or during full day optional excursions where you cruise close to the impressive calving glacier of Eqip. Isolated settlements: On other optional excursions sail to small and remote settlements, where the Greenlandic hunters still live much according to ancient traditions.
