The Greenland Capital-Nuuk-A modern town in the Arctic, the center of Greenlandic administration and the site of the famous Greenland National Museum.

Ilulissat-The town of icebergs and the most modern town in the Disko Bay area, still man is outnumbered by the huskies and traces of 4000 years old Inuit settlements are still to be found. Small and isolated settlements are to be found close to the town where the local population is still depending upon hunting and fishing, not to forget the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fiord and its gigantic icebergs.

Narsaq-is a typical Greenlandic town where the small wooden houses painted in different bright colors contrast the deep blue fiords with impressive icebergs. Some of the highlights are: Fiord cruises between Narsarsuaq and Narsaq, ruins from the Viking period, beautiful arctic scenery including the Inland Ice cap and time to experience the daily life in a small Greenlandic town.

Itinerary

Pre and post tour nights in Copenhagen or Reykjavik available

Excursions in Narsarsuaq-Can be pre booked: Eric the Red’s Viking Ruins-3 hours-DKK 650-Cross the Eric Fjord by boat and go ashore at the sheep breeding settlement Qassiarsuk, situated on the very spot where Eric the Red in the year 985 settled and named his farm Brattahild. You will visit the ruins of Eric’s farm and some nearby Eskimo ruins.

The Village of Igaliku-8 Hours-DKK 1500 per person including lunch-You will travel by boat through the ice filled Eric’s Fjord to Itilleq where you will go ashore next to some of the biggest agricultural fields in South Greenland. You will walk 3km to Igliku (transportation can be arranged at a surcharge), a beautiful village where the ruins of the Viking’s Cathedral and the Bishop’s Farm are situated. After lunch at a small cafeteria you will walk through the village back to Itilleq and then by boat to Narsarsuaq.

Qooroq Ice Fjord-3 Hours-DKK 980 per person-The Greenland Ice Cap produces 250 million tons of icebergs every summer and their last journey begin when they break off the glaciers. One of these glaciers is the Qooroq Glacier. Cruise between the icebergs towards the glacier.

Hike to the Ice Cap-8 Hours-DKK 800 per person including lunch-This excursion demands that you are able to walk at least 6km in mountain terrain. You will go by bus as far as the roads leads and continue by foot through the “Flower Valley” where the colorful sub arctic flora can be experienced. Enjoy lunch at the top of a 300m high mountain from where you will have a fantastic view over the glacier and the Ice Cap.

Tasiusaq & Kayaking-8 hours-To be booked only locally on request. Price depends on group size-Boat transfer in RIB boats from Narsarsuaq to Qassiarsuk. Visit to the Viking ruins followed by 4×4 trip to Tasiusaq, where seven people live in almost complete isolation near the Sermilik Fjord. Lunch in Tasiusaq and time to explore the area on your own. In the afternoon, kayak excursion in the Iceberg Bay. This is a 2-hour sea kayaking trip suitable for beginners, among icebergs in one of the safest and best places to kayak in Greenland.

Short Hike to the Ridge-3 hours-400 DKK per person-After a bus ride to the start of the ridge where you will begin your walk seeing a large variety of flowers and plants. From the top of the ridge you will have an amazing view of the Flower Valley, river, fjord and Narsarsuaq Glacier.

Ilulissat:

Icebergs of Sermermiut-3 hours-DKK 325 per person-Drive as far as the road goes. A short walk to Sermermiut where traces from the 4 old Eskimo cultures still can be seen. Sermermiut is a fertile valley next to the Ice Fjord, here you can enjoy flowers as well as the fantastic Icebergs.

Sunset Cruise to the Ice Fjord-2.5 hours-DKK 775 per person-The midnight sun and the warm red colors reflecting the gigantic icebergs is a fantastic sight. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late Martini on “the real rocks.”

Home Visit-1.5 hours-DKK 350 per person-Visit a Greenland home, enjoy the coffee milk (a cup of coffee which by tradition is served to all visitors), and learn about Greenland and its people.

Fishing Tour-1350 DKK per person-3 hour tour-Sail to the fishing spot of the day, most probably near Bredebugt or at the mouth of the Ilulissat Ice Fjord. While waiting for your catch you have time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. By the end of the day you will hopefully bring home different sorts of fish like cod, halibut, red fish and catfish.

Visit the Greenlandic Dogs-300 DKK per person-1.5 hour tour-Ilulissat is sledge riding-area and the 3500 dogs in town are still used for both work and fun every winter. You are invited to join the feeding of a dog team. You can see, feel, touch and most of all hear the howling of 20 hungry dogs. The owner will demonstrate the sledge and the harness and tell about life as a sledge dog in Greenland. Good shoes advised.

Hike on the Cecily Trail-7-8 hour tour-DKK 1200 per person including packed lunch-drive to the airport where you start your full day hike north along the coast. Discover different Arctic plants and beautiful icebergs floating in the Disko Bay. Your guide tells you about the Cecily trail, named after an annual run from Rodebay to Ilulissat. It is commonly used both by locals and tourists for dog sledding in winter and trekking tours in summer. Don’t forget to enjoy the silence or use your time taking photos and collecting flowers. Depending on weather conditions the tour aims to make it to Bredebugt, where the locals have their summer cottages. If you want to experience a real Arctic adventure, how about a quick dip in the ice cold waters of a nearby lake? Hiking boots and mosquito net advised. You have to be in good physical shape to participate in this tour.

Flight of Fantasy-1.5 hours-DKK 4600 per person- This is the ultimate highlight of your trip to Ilulissat. Travel by helicopter in low altitude over the dramatic Arctic landscape. Make 2 stops en route to give you an opportunity to appreciate the magnitude of the Inland Ice Cap. On our way home fly through the Kangia Fjord where you will also do a bit of whale watching. Minimum 4 passengers required.

Glacier Eqi & Rodebay including. lunch or dinner-7 hours-DKK 2975 per person-This excursion combines a visit to the tiny settlement of Rodebay with a cruise in front of the 5-km wide Eqi Glacier, which is very active and there will be many photo opportunities. This area is also excellent for spotting whales and hopefully the gentle giants of the sea will put in an appearance. Lunch or dinner included.

Ilimanaq & Whale safari including lunch-6 hours-DKK 1950 per person-Visit to the picturesque settlement of Ilimanaq combined with a whale safari in the Disko Bay. In the summer time humpback whales (a protected species) come to the Disko Bay to feed on small herring like fish. Please be aware that you are not visiting a zoo, and therefore we cannot guarantee that the whales will be seen. Packed lunch included.
