The King’s Road is an ancient travel route, which was used by kings and their messengers since the 13th century. The route follows an old postal road, which ran between Scandinavia and Russia. Along the route there are a wealth of historic manor houses, medieval churches, picturesque villages and charming old ironwork. The section featured here runs through Finland’s southern coastal region from Helsinki to Turku and on to Stockholm by ship.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Helsinki
Self transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day is yours to begin your exploration of the Finnish capital which was founded in 1550 by King Gustavus Wasa. Overnight Scandic Hotel Continental

Day 2 Helsinki
After breakfast enjoy a city tour of Helsinki. Founded by King Gustavus Wasa in 1550 Helsinki is Finland’s cosmopolitan capital on the Baltic, where east blends with west. On your city tour you will see the most important and interesting parts of Helsinki such as the historical center and the Senate Square, the diplomatic quarters, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, the Parliament building, Finlandia Hall, and the Opera House. The bus stops at the Sibelius Monument and when possible the Temppeliaukio Church in the Rock. Overnight at the Scandic Hotel Continental.

Day 3 Helsinki-Porvoo-Helsinki
This morning free to shop for famous Finnish design or visit one of the city’s many excellent museums. Afternoon tour to the idyllic town of Porvoo, Finland’s second oldest town. Famous for its charming red wooden warehouses you will enjoy strolling the cobblestone streets and shopping in the many handicraft shops. Overnight Scandic Hotel Continental.

Day 4 Helsinki-Turku-Naantali
After breakfast self transfer to the rail station for your 2 hour ride through the Finnish countryside to medieval Turku, Finland’s oldest town and former capital. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the charming town of Naantali dating from 1443. Overnight at the Naantali Spa, Scandinavia’s most modern and up to date.

Day 5 Turku
Enjoy and full day at leisure in Naantali and Turku. Overnight Naantali Spa.

Day 6 Turku-Overnight Cruise
Day at leisure until self transfer to the pier for your Silja Line overnight cruise to Stockholm. Enjoy duty free shopping and your choice of restaurants on board. Overnight outside, Seaside class cabin with private facilities.

Day 7 Stockholm
Buffet breakfast on board. Arrive Stockholm and self transfer to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy this beautiful capital built on 14 islands and surrounded by water. Overnight Hotel Sergel Plaza

Day 8 Stockholm-End of Tour
Tour ends after breakfast. You may extend your stay in Stockholm.

Additional nights in Helsinki, Turku and/or Stockholm are available.

Extension to the UNESCO listed town of Rauma, Finland’s third oldest city with many wooden houses can be added.

Extension to the Aland Islands charming capital Mariehamn can be added.
