Itinerary

Day 1 Vilnius
Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel. In the afternoon you will be taken on a city tour that includes Cathedral Square, the Gates of Dawn, Vilnius University, Gediminas Castle and St. Anne’s Church. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 2 Vilnius-Trakai-Vilnius
This morning you will be taken on a tour to Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and one of the country’ oldest towns. You will see the famous 15th century red-brick Trakai Castle which was built on a small island in the middle of Lake Galve. The former seat of the Lithuanian Grand Dukes, the castle now houses a local history museum with a huge collection of objects d’art. Return to Vilnius where you will have time at leisure. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 3 Vilnius-Kaunas
Depart to Kaunas, the interim capital of Lithuania between the two World Wars with a stop on the way to Rumsiskes an outdoor Ethnographic Museum. The museum offers an understanding of the architecture, traditions, crafts and lifestyle of farmers at the end of the 18-19 centuries. An afternoon tour of Kaunas includes a visit to the Old Town, the Town Hall, Thunder House, Vytautas Church and the pedestrian street, Liberty Avenue. Overnight in Kaunas.

Day 4 Kaunas-Kaliningrad
Departure to the Kaliningrad Region, now an enclave of Russia, but once the land of the Teutonic Knights and Prussian Kings. The road winds along the Nemunas River dotted with the Raudondvaris, Veliuona and Raudone castles. Overnight in Kaliningrad.

Day 5 Kaliningrad-Svetlogorsk-Kaliningrad
Today’s sightseeing of Kaliningrad will show you the amazing history of this town once known as Konigsberg until 1946. Your tour highlights the main attractions of the town such as the Cathedral, the symbol of the town, where the remains of the famous philosopher Immanuel Kant are buried, Albertina University, founded in the 16th century, Lasch Bunker, the underground command post built by the Germans in 1945 and Rossgarten Gate built in the mid-19th century as part of the city’s defense system. An afternoon drive to the peaceful seaside resort town of Svetlogorsk (Rauchen) boasting the Brakhert sculpture Park, 19th century water tower and Art Nouveau bathhouse will be seen. Overnight in Kalliningrad.

Day 6 Kaliningrad-Curonian Spit-Klaipeda
This morning drive back to Lithuania via the windswept Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage site and National Park, with romantic fishing villages, forests, white sand dunes and the mystical Hill of Witches. The area also has a dramatic history, and was governed at different times by the Teutonic Order, Prussia, Sweden, Germany and even for a short time, France. Overnight at Lithuania’s largest port, Klaipeda.

Day 7 Klaipeda-Palanga-Klaipeda
A morning city tour will focus on the Old Town with its Theater Square dominated by the statue of a girl “Ann from Tharau,” narrow alleyways with attractive courtyards, art galleries, cafes small boutiques, many lattice-work buildings and old warehouses reflecting the influence of Germanic architecture of the Hanseatic period. The tour ends with a visit to the History Museum of Lithuania Minor relating the ancient history of the town. In the afternoon you will visit Palanga, the most popular seaside resort in Lithuania for a visit to the famous Amber Museum, the best place to learn the history of amber, known as “Lithuanian Gold.” Overnight in Klaipeda.

Day 8 Klaipeda-Vilnius
After breakfast return to Vilnius. Upon arrival remainder of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Vilnius.

Day 9 Vilnius-End of Tour
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport. You can extend your stay in Vilnius or continue to Latvia, Belarus or Poland.
