Itinerary

Day 1 Reykjavik.
Upon arrival to Reykjavik Flybus transfer to your centrally located hotel. We suggest a stroll down the city’s main shopping street Laugavegur or visit the Einar Jonsson Sculpture Museum. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2 Reykjavik-Akureyri.
After breakfast transfer on own to Reykjavik Domestic Airport for your flight to Iceland’s second largest city Akureyri. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Lake Myvatn area with sightseeing en route. Overnight at the Sel Hotel Lake Myvatn.

Day 3 Lake Myvatn Area.
Day at leisure in this spectacular moon-like area. Many optional excursions are available for purchase on the spot. It is ideal to end the evening with a late night relaxation in the outdoor hot tub and enjoy the so often seen Northern Lights dancing around in striking colors across the Arctic sky. Overnight Lake Myvatn.

Day 4 Lake Myvatn-Akureyri-Reykjavik
In the morning, you will visit the town of Akureyri, the trade and cultural center of North Iceland, beautifully resting in a scenic fjord. After a short sightseeing tour, fly back to Reykjavik. Upon arrival self transfer from the domestic airport to the hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 5 Reykjavik-End of Tour
After breakfast Flybus transfer to the airport. You can extend your stay in Reykjavik or continue to Greenland or Scandinavia.

Snowmobile-An exciting and adventurous snowmobile tour out on the frozen Lake Myvatn. With a snowmobile you can explore nature during the winter months in a different way. Take an exciting adventure on snowmobiles out on the frozen Lake Myvatn or travel deep into the highland with a guide. Price: One person per scooter/Two persons per scooter Included: overall, boots, gloves, helmet, fuel. Duration 30 minutes.

Super-Jeep Adventure-Different tours available, but you will always get a combination of sightseeing and a super jeep adventure of the Myvatn region. On this tour you will explore its surroundings. Volcanic and geothermal activity near the lake have created spectacular landscape and scenery. You will make many stops by the lake; such as at the thermal area of Namafjall, where you will see boiling mud pools and bubbling sulfur pits, an underground cave with hot spring, the dark city of Dimmuborgir, the lava sculptures and the beautiful woodland in the nature park Hofdi. In high winter when the roads are covered with snow, it might be the only way to get really close to the lakeside. Included: super-jeep and English speaking driver-guide. Sightseeing Tour-Explore the surroundings of the lake, the volcanic and geothermal activity, the spectacular landscape and scenery. Country Tour-Amongst other things, you will visit a hydroelectric power station, see time past at an old turf farm and folk museum at Grenjadarstadur, visit Husavik, a small fishing village and the Whale Museum. The tour gives you a great view on the Icelandic way of life, past and present. Price: Included: Mini bus, an English speaking driver. Duration 5 hours. Minimum 2 persons for tour to operate.

Evening Northern Lights Tour-If the Northern Lights will not show themselves, it is time to go on a hunt. It is unforgettable to stop in the middle of nowhere, step out of the car, inhale “the tranquility” and search for the Northern Lights. Lake Myvatn belongs to the highland of Iceland and is around 300 m above sea-level. This is why Lake Myvatn is a remarkable place to discover the Northern Lights. It is unforgettable to stop in the middle of nowhere, step out of the car, enjoy the tranquility and search for the Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are unreliable and not always to be seen, however, it can still be a great adventure. To warm you up we serve home made bread, cakes and hot chocolate. Myvatn Nature Baths-A wonderful lagoon with warm and soothing waters that are beneficial to skin. The lagoon is rich in unique combination of natural minerals and will get blue green algae and white silica mud in the future, which give the lagoon its soft, milky, aquamarine color.The natural geothermal is also very healthy for patients with psoriasis and other skin ailments. A good dressing room, three different kind of steam baths and a hot tub as well can also be found at the nature bath. Included: Transfer. Not included: Admission to the Nature Baths. Cross-Country skiing-The Lake Myvatn area and surrounding highlands are ideal for cross-country skiing. Tours available for both beginners and the more experienced skiers. Shorter tours are suitable from beginners to more experienced skiers. Long tours are for those with some experience of cross-country skiing. Beginner tour: Included: skis, boots and ski poles. Ice delights-Different kinds of amusements on the frozen lake; Bowling, cricket, skating, mini golf, go-cart and more. Further information are given locally.

Lake tour: A short tour exploring the area of Lake Myvatn. You will be able to enjoy magnificent views from the lake to surrounding mountains. Dettifoss Sightseeing: Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe and is unforgettable at winter time. This is an outstanding tour, where you get the opportunity to see the nature at its best. You will also see the waterfall Selfoss and the Basalt Canyon of the river Jokulsa. The drive to Dettifoss takes about 1 hour and then walk down to the waterfalls in snow conditions. It is great fun but can sometimes be a little difficult to walk in the snow. So dress well and be prepared for everything. Included: Mini bus, an English speaking driver-guide. Duration 4-5 hours, minimum 2 persons.
