The often clear sky over Kangerlussuaq makes it one of the destinations in the world where the Northern lights are visible most frequently. Here is one of the world’s largest stock of wild Musk Oxen, a prehistoric animal which are seen wild in only a very few places in the world. Kangerlussuaq is the only destination in Greenland from where it is possible to drive directly to the Inland Ice Cap.

Itinerary

Day 1 Copenhagen-Kangerlussuaq
Air Greenland flight from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq Upon arrival you will be met and escorted to the Hotel Kangerlussuaq your home for the next 4 nights. After check in you will be given information about your stay in the area. Later in the day you will be taken on a tour of the area. This orientation tour of Kangerlussuaq lasts about 2 hours and informs about the history of the village and the former American Base “Blue West 8”. You will also see the locations of the various facilities such as fast food restaurant, night club, bowling hall and swimming pool. Overnight in Greenland.

Day 2 Kangerlussuaq.
This morning you will be taken on an Inland Ice Cap Tour. Drive along the mountain track and partly off road directly to the Greenland Inland Ice Cap. You will pass through impressive arctic landscapes such as former glacier valleys, an arctic dessert, along frozen rivers and over small passes. 4-5 hour tour. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq.

Day 3 Kangerlussuaq.
After breakfast you will experience a 1.5 hour Arctic Nature Tour. The worlds largest population of wild musk and reindeer live in close range of Kangerlussuaq. Drive by mini-vans to an area where the animals are seen almost daily. Please note that you will be going into the wilderness; it is not a zoo. Therefore we cannot guarantee that you�ll see the animals, but the viewing rate is generally high. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq.

Day 4 Kangerlussuaq
After breakfast you will enjoy a 2 hour dog sledge ride. Experience traveling like the Eskimos have been doing for centuries.Minimum 2 persons per sledge and you have to be in good physical shape to join the dog sledge tour. Rental of fur clothes & boots are included in the price. Please note that this tour operates only when there is snow, generally from early January until late March. This evening you will enjoy a Northern Light Evening Tour. Kangerlussuaq is one of the best locations in the world to experience the Aurora Borealis. Drive by car to Lake Ferguson where your guide will tell you Greenland Sagas and serve typical Greenland snacks and hot drinks while you enjoy the Northern Lights flashing over the sky. The tour lasts about 2.5 hours. Please note that the tour does not operate on cloudy evenings and the season for seeing the Northern Lights is from the end of November until the end of March. Overnight in Kangerlussuaq.

Day 5 Kangerlussuaq-Copenhagen.
After breakfast you will be escorted to the airport for your return flight to Copenhagen. Hotel nights can be added in Copenhagen if needed.

Rental of fur clothes-DKK 300 per person per day-The outside temperature might drop to minus 35 degrees Celsius – a cold but also unique experience! Luckily genuine Greenlandic seal skin Anorak and trousers as well as polar boots are possible to rent.
