Belarus, is still tied very closely to Russia and its Soviet past. Still visible are statues of Lenin and Marx and street signs still have the names October Revolution and Red Army. Change is coming slowly to this country and to get a real glimpse of life here we suggest a visit to the beautiful countryside with its charming villages. The capital Minsk, was nearly destroyed in World War II. It has been completely reconstructed and excellent examples of Soviet architecture can be seen everywhere. In Minsk visit the 18th century Orthodox cathedral, and the 17th century Bernadine Monastery. Performances of opera, ballet and classical music are excellent and a great value. Other cities of interest in Belarus are, Pinsk, Brest and Babrusk. Continental Journeys offers independent tours to this unspoiled area of eastern Europe.
