Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Bucharest
Upon arrival in Bucharest you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to begin your exploration of the “Paris of the Balkan.” Overnight Hotel Victoria Tower or similar.

Day 2 Bucharest
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour of this lovely city. You will enjoy an inside visit the Village Museum and the Parliament Palace, the 2nd largest building in the world. You will also see Revolution Square, the Patriachal Church and the Triumphal Arch. Dinner will be served in a local restaurant with folklore show. Overnight Hotel Victoria Tower or similar.

Day 3 Bucharest-Cozia Monastery-Sibiu
After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel for your drive across the Carpathian Mountains and the scenic Olt River Valley to Transylvania. On the way you will visit the Cozia Monastery, where one of Romania’s most important historical figures, Volvode Mirceacel Batran is buried. Arrive in Sibiu, a charming old town of Saxon heritage. Your city tour will include the city’s charming old quarter with its Evangelical Cathedral, Roman Catholic Baroque Church, the Great and Lesser Square and the exclusive Brukenthal Museum, one of the best art galleries in Romania. Traditional dinner will be served at a farmhouse in the village of Sibiel. Overnight Hotel Ramada or similar.

Day 4 Sibiu-Biertan-Sighisoara
After breakfast drive to Biertan village and visit the local fortified Saxon church which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Inside you will see the largest wing alter in Romania, the famous 3 wall rings and the gold lock. Continue to Sighisoara, the best preserved medieval fortified town in Romania for your city tour. You will visit the Clock Tower Museum, the Torture Room, the Evangelical Church, the Weapons Room and the house where Dracula-Vlad the Impaler was born. Dinner and overnight Hotel Sighisoara or similar.

Day 5 Sighisoara-Brasov-Bran-Sinaia
In the morning depart for Sinaia. On the way visit Brasov where you will enjoy a city tour that includes the Black Church, the largest Gothic construction in Southeastern Europe, St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and the first Romanian School. Afterwords visit Bran Castle, known as Dracula’s Castle. Built in the 14th century by the merchants of Brasov to protect the border between Valachia and Transylvania. Continue to Sinaia, a beautiful mountain resort in the Carpathian Mountains and known as “The Pearl of the Carpathians.” Dinner and overnight Hotel Palace or similar.

Day 6 Sinaia-Valley of the Roses-Veliko Turnovo
After breakfast you will visit the Peles Castle built in the German-neo renaissance style, an exquisite piece of architecture, which was the summer residence of King Carl I of Romania. Continue driving south toward the Danube River and soon reach the border with Bulgaria at the town of Giurgiu. Cross the bridge over the Danube into Bulgaria and the city of Russe. Drive to the beautiful “Valley of the Roses” and to medieval Veliko Turnovo, the former capital of the Bulgarian Empire. Dinner and overnight Hotel Yantra.

Day 7 Veliko Turnovo-Arbanassi-Veliko Turnovo
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour of the historic Old Town of Veliko Turnovo. Later you will drive to Arbanassi, a picturesque small village located near Veliko Turnovo. The village is famous for its interesting architecture. You will see the Church of the Nativity, the most richly decorated church in Bulgaria and whose wall paintings are considered masterpieces. Lunch is included today. Overnight Hotel Yantra or similar.

Day 8 Veliko Turnovo-Etura-Plovdiv
After breakfast depart to the town of Plovdiv . On the way you will visit the Etura open-air museum showing the architecture, lifestyle and economic past of the Gabrovo region during the Revival period. Different crafts are demonstrated in numerous workshops. Cross the Balkan mountains through the Shipka Pass, famous for its historical significance. You will visit the memorial Shipka Church with its golden domes. Upon arrival to Plovdiv you will be taken on a walking tour of its historic center including an inside visit to the Roman amphitheater. Dinner and overnight Hotel Ramada Princess or similar.

Day 9 Plovdiv-Rila Monastery-Sofia
From Plovdiv drive to the imposing Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural site and the cultural center of Bulgaria during the middle ages. After your visit continue to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Dinner and overnight Hotel Thracia or similar.

Day 10 Sofia
In the morning you will be taken on a city tour of historic Sofia. You will see the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Rotonda of St. George’s Church, the oldest building in Sofia and St. Nicholas Russian Church. Afternoon will be at leisure to shop for handicrafts or visit one of the city’s many museums. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant with folklore show. Overnight Hotel Thracia or similar.

Day 11 Sofia-End of Tour
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport or you can extend your stay in fascinating Sofia.
