East Greenland is the perfect destination if you want to experience traditional Greenlandic culture and the original drum dance

Itinerary

Day 1 Reykjavik-Ammassalik
Morning flight on Air Iceland from the Reykjavik domestic airport to Kulusuk. Continue by helicopter to Ammassalik. Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel. After check in you will have an information meeting about your trip. Later we suggest you take a walking tour. The walk will take you through the old colonial part of town, which is now the city center and you will visit the museum located in the old church. The harbor, hospital and the new school tell the story of a society that embraces both history and modernity. Dinner and overnight Hotel Angmagssalik.

Day 2 Ammassalik
After breakfast at leisure to take one of the optional excursions. Lunch included at the hotel. Dinner and overnight Hotel Angmagssalik

Day 3 Ammassalik-Kulusuk
After breakfast you will be taken to the heliport for your departure by Air Greenland to Kulusuk. Lunch will be served at the hotel. Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel. Later we suggest you enjoy a city walk. Dinner and overnight Hotel Kulusuk.

Day 4 Kulusuk-Reykjavik
After breakfast you will be taken to the airport for your Air Iceland flight to Reykjavik. Tour ends upon arrival at the Reykjavik domestic airport. Hotel nights in Reykjavik can be added.

Walk to the “Valley of Flowers”-2.5 hours-Guided walk/tour passes the cemetery behind the town. The walks will take you to a beautiful waterfall.

Hike to the View Point-4-5 hours-Guided hiking tour to the back country of Ammassalik. The rough but beautiful nature of Greenland reveals itself as the walk takes you up in the hills, along lakes and mountain rivers. Enjoy a marvelous view over the area including the ice filled sea. The guide will serve coffee/tea.

Iceberg Cruise-boat tour-2 hours-A perfect opportunity to see the ice in all its shapes and colors. A must for the photographer.

Apusiijak Glaicer by Boat-4 Hours-Sail past a fascinating variety of icebergs and flow to the impressive Apusiaajik Glacier. This tour where you cruise close to a glacier is an unforgettable experience.

Helicopter Flight to the Mitivagkat Glacier-Helicopter flight to the 1000m high Mitivagkat Glacier. Flying up to the glacier located on Tasiilaq island you will land i order to enjoy the ice filled fjords, snow caped mountain ranges and the inland ice cap itself. Please note that this tour departs weather permitting and can only be purchased in Greenland.

Visit to Kuumit-8 hour tour-By boat sail to the small settlement of Kummuit located 60 kilometers northeast of Tasiilaq, deep in the Ammassalik Fjord. From the settlement you have a breathtaking view down the fjord onto Denmark’s Strait. Only 337 people live in this isolated settlement, most of them are hunters and fishermen.

Hunters settlement Tiniteqilaaq-8 hour tour-By boat to the settlement of Tiniteqilaaq, located on the mainland of Greenland just north of Ammassalik Island. The small settlement has a population of approx. 150 persons mainly depending upon fishing and hunting with the spectacular view to the Sermilik fiord, where huge icebergs floats by, just outside their windows. Upon arrival to Tiniteqilaaq a guided tour of the settlement will be offered, before enjoying our lunch on board the boat.

Easy Hike to the Village of Kap Dan-3 hours-Walk from Kulusuk to Kap Dan passing the cemetery to learn about traditions and up to a view point that overlooks the village before you descend to Kap Dan to experience the daily life in a Greenlandic settlement.

Drive up to the Mountain View Point-2 hours-Drive from the hotel along a mountain track to a radio station on a mountaintop overlooking the Arctic Ocean and Kulusuk Island.

Hiking to the Ruins of the Mysterious Hunting Wall-4 Hours-East hike from the hotel to the lake. Cross the river and walk into the marchland, which will take you to the Big Stone, which the local hunters have used to spot their prey for centuries. Close by are the remains of an ancient wall which was used to trap wild life. The wall is believed to date back several hundred of years. After a refreshment stop you will go in search of an old hunter’s grave and also the old prayer stone, which was used to contact the ancient Inuit Gods. The guide will tell you about Inuit life and religious traditions.
