Greenland From the Sea

Depart:
Land and Cruise Tour

8 Days/ 7 Nights

Saturdays from Copenhagen-June- September

The best way to experience the great variety of the world’s biggest island is from the sea. Join an amazing journey along the West Coast of Greenland, accommodated in modern outside cabins with private facilities, where you visit most of the towns and watch the beautiful landscape change along the way. This is how the locals travel.

On board you have the unique possibility of meeting the locals as many Greenlanders travel by ship instead of flying. Enjoy the hectic life in the harbors when calling to a remote town; Families reuniting, a winning football team coming home and young people starting out for adventures of their lives. Watch the landscape change as we leave behind the gigantic icebergs in the Disko Bay and pass by the rough and steep mountains near Maniitsoq, the area where you find the highest mountains in West Greenland. Head for fertile South Greenland where you sail through narrow straits and get so close to the mountains that you can almost touch them. On board you have plenty of time to enjoy the fantastic scenery and make sure to keep your eyes open as humpback whales can be spotted all along the coast.

Ilulissat-The town of the Icebergs and the most modern town in the Disko Bay area. Still man is outnumbered by the huskies and traces of 4000 years old Inuit settlements are to be found. Furthermore this is the location of the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fiord and its gigantic icebergs. During the stay in Ilulissat you have plenty of time to experience this unique part of Greenland: Calving glaciers and gigantic icebergs: majestic icebergs are situated in the Ilulissat Ice Fiord just south of the town and these icy giants can be experienced at close range on a midnight cruise. No wonder that UNESCO decided to put the Ilulissat Ice Fiord on the World Heritage List! North of Ilulissat you can get very close to the calving glacier Eqi on a full day boat excursion. Isolated settlements: Visit some of the remote settlements in the Disko Bay area where the population still is depending upon hunting and fishing. Here you find the old world and a great contrast to the hectic life in the city of Ilulissat. Helicopter excursion: Fly in low altitude over the UNESCO designated Ilulissat Ice Fiord and experience the glacier and the Icebergs from another angle.

Narsaq-is a typical Greenlandic town where the small wooden houses painted in different bright colors contrast the deep blue fiords with impressive icebergs. Some of the highlights are: Fiord cruises between Narsarsuaq and Narsaq, ruins from the Viking period, beautiful arctic scenery including the Inland Ice cap and time to experience the daily life in a small Greenlandic town.
