Then you shouldn’t miss the cultural and natural highlights of the “Austrian Romantic Road.” In the Salzkammergut, a district dotted with mills, in the Struden and Nibelungengau, in the Wachau–like a string of pearls, the palaces, castles, museums, monasteries, game parks, caves, lakes, rivers, and magnificent landscapes of the states of Salzburg. Upper and Lower Austria line the “Romantic Road” from Salzburg to Vienna.

8 day car rental-VW Golf VI or similar-manual transmission with air conditioning or private car and driver. Please note for private car and driver petrol is not included and is to be paid on the spot according to consumption.Please note for rental car-pick up and return during normal working hours. Included:unlimited kilometers, CDW (limitation of liability), TP (theft insurance), Airport tax, traffic tax, 20% VAT and 1% contract fee. Not included: insurance for transporting people (passenger insurance) (Depending on the rental car type remains a deductible per occurrence. This deductible can be included through Super Cover and must be completed on the spot). Austria requires all vehicles using the autobahn to display a highway toll sticker. Rental companies in Austria charge approx US$0.65 per day for a toll sticker. Stickers are available at the border or gas stations when entering from another country. Additional fee for more than 1 driver needs to be added.

Itinerary

Day 1 Salzburg
Upon arrival in beautiful Salzburg pick up rental car and begin your exploration of the city of the “Sound of Music” and the hometown of Mozart. Use your Salzburg Card for unlimited use of the city’s transportation system and discounts to museums. Overnight in Salzburg.

Day 2 Salzburg-Mondsee-St. Gilgen-Bad Ischl
After breakfast, drive from Salzburg to Mondsee, visit the famous church in Mondsee (where the marriage of Maria from the “Sound of Music” was filmed). Continue further on to St. Gilgen at the Wolfgangsee. St. Gilgen is very famous for Mozart and offers a romantic historic center for a nice lunch break or a quick swim in the Wolfgang Lake. Drive from St. Gilgen to Bad Ischl. Enjoy a walk around in Bad Ischl. Overnight in Bad Ischl.

Day 3 Bad Ischl-Hallstatt-Bad Ischl
Visit the World Heritage Museum in Hallstatt, or you can make a boat trip on the Hallstattersee– which is surrounded by mountains. Back in Bad Ischl, you have enough time to visit the Imperial Castle of Franz Josef and Sissi or make a horse riding “Pferdekutsche” through Bad Ischl. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a piece of cake at the famous and historic Cafe Zauner located in the center of Bad Ischl. Overnight in Bad Ischl.

Day 4 Bad Ischl-Traunsee-Steyr
After breakfast drive from Bad Ischl to the beautiful Traunsee–passing charming Gmunden and via the historical monastery Kremsmunster further on to Steyr. In the afternoon you will enjoy a city walk and visit the museum of Steyr. Overnight in Steyr.

Day 5 Steyr-Enns-Melk-Krems
Today the trip continues to Lower Austria–when we will cross the Danube and visit Enns and make another stop over in Melk. Here the picturesque monastery will keep all your attraction. From Melk the Romantic Road continues in the wine region “Wachau” until Krems. Overnight in Krems.

Day 6 Krems
If you have not had time to visit Krems and at least one of the typical vineyards–you definitely should do this now. Further on, the wine tasting in the afternoon is another highlight. You could make a little visit to “Stift Gottweig” which you can see on the other side of the Danube. Overnight in Krems.

Day 7 Krems-Vienna
Continue your drive to Vienna via Tulln and Klosterneuberg. Upon arrival in Vienna visit the historic center or one of the city’s many excellent museums. For private tour passengers driver/guide leaves you at the Hotel in Vienna. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 8 Vienna
After breakfast return rental car or for private tour clients you will be transferred to the airport. You may add nights in Vienna or continue to Hungary, the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
