Itinerary

Day 1 Lucerne
Arrival in Lucerne by 1st class train from the Swiss border or any Swiss airport. Self transfer to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure to begin your exploration of this historic city located on Lake Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 2 Lucerne
Today you will enjoy an excursion by boat and cogwheel train to Mount Pilatus. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 3 Lucerne-Interlaken
From Lucerne over the Brunig Pass to Interlaken by the Luzern-Interlaken Express. On your journey you will pass 3 small lakes before reaching Lake Brienz with its very distinctive color due to its glacial waters. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 4 Interlaken
Full day at leisure. We suggest an excursion to the Jungfraujoch the highest train station in Europe (Top of Europe) or a boat trip on Lake Brienz. Overnight in Interlaken.

Day 5 Interlaken-Montreux
Trip by train to Zweisimmen. Change to the GoldenPass Panoramic train (or optional GoldenPass Classic) for the rest of the days memorable trip to Montreux. You find yourself among alpine forests, bubbling mountain springs and picturesque mountain villages. Overnight in Montreux.

Day 6 Montreux-End of Tour
After breakfast self transfer to the rail station for your trip to the Swiss border or any Swiss Airport. You may extend your stay in beautiful Alpine Switzerland.

Every Monday and Wednesday all year + Thursday May – June and September-October plus daily July and August
A coffee and a croissant will be served on board the Chocolate Train. The “Maison Cailler-Nestl” chocolate factory awaits you. Through a didactic itinerary, you will learn everything about the history of the Swiss chocolate making tradition followed by a chocolate tasting. Afterwards a bus takes you to the village of Gruyeres for some leisure time. You might go for lunch and enjoy the tasty local cheese fondue or visit the Gruyeres castle. Later that afternoon the bus takes you to “La Maison du Gruyere” for a visit of the demonstration cheese factory followed by the return travel to Montreux with the Chocolate Train.

From Zermatt, the popular Gornergrat Bahn, Europe’s highest open-air cogwheel railway, takes you up to the Gornergrat 9.3 km away. The train crosses impressive bridges, galleries and tunnels. On the Gornergrat viewing platform you are surrounded by 29 peaks rising to above 4000 m. Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 7 Zermatt-St. Moritz
Board the Glacier Express and enjoy one of the greatest rail journeys in the world. A 7 hour rail journey takes you across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass at 2033 m to St. Moritz. Lunch included on the train. Overnight in St. Moritz.

Day 1 Zurich

Day 2 Zurich-Lucerne-Mount Titlis-Interlaken
Departure for Lucerne. Short sightseeing tour and free time to explore on your own. At noon continue to Engelberg. Take the rotating Rotair cable car to the top of Mount Titlis and its spectacular glacier. From an elevation of 3.020 m, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Central Alps. Day 3 Interlaken-Bern-Gruyeres-Geneva

Day 4 Geneva-Montreux-Zermatt
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Geneva and visit the beautiful parks along the lake, the cathedral and the European headquarters of the UN. Then travel to Lausanne and Montreux, passing the magnificent Chillon Castle. Free time to explore Montreux. In the afternoon travel up the Rodano river valley as far as Tasch. Day 1 Stockholm-Trosa
Upon arrival at Arlanda Airport pick up your rental car and start your journey to some of the most romantic and interesting places and hotels in Sweden. From Stockholm drive to the archipelago town of Trosa located by the Sormland coast. This area is an open landscape with living farm districts and pleasant creeks. Overnight Trosa Stadshotel.

Day 2 Trosa

Day 3 Trosa-Kalmar
Continue your journey along the Swedish coast passing Norrkoping and Vastervik before you reach Oskarshamn. In the afternoon arrive in Kalmar. Kalmar is one of the oldest towns in the country and was once even the third largest in Sweden. Overnight Hotel Stadshotellet.

Day 4 Kalmar
The medieval town of Kalmar is strategically located between Oland and the Kingdom of Crystal. Important sights include the original and well-preserved city center with its Town Hall, Cathedral and Kalmar Castle. We also suggest an excursion to the island of Oland, Sweden’s second largest. The attractions of the island are its 400 windmills, 34 churches, 16 ancient fortifications, 34 orchid species, the tallest lighthouse in Sweden and the largest windmill in Scandinavia. Day 5 Kalmar-Kingdom of Crystal-Jonkoping
Today you will enjoy an excursion into the world famous Kingdom of Crystal. Located in the heart of the province of Smaland you will find some of the most famous glass factories in the world such as Orrefors, Kosta Boda, Pukeberg and Maleras. You can visit glass blowing rooms and shop for beautiful objects at factory prices. Continue towards Ljungby and Vaarnamo on your way to Jonkoping. Overnight Hotel Victoria.

Day 6 Jonkoping-Soderkoping
On your way to Soderkoping you will pass the picturesque village of Granna. In this small town small stores are mixed with handicraft shops, cafes, restaurants and the popular peppermint candy factories. Stroll around among the small wooden houses and enjoy the view from the Granna Mountain. Proceed south along the shores of Lake Vattern to Vadstena. During the Middle Ages, Vadstena was an important place of pilgrimage. Thousands came to visit the Abbey Church with the relics of Saint Brigitta and her double monastery with a community of both nuns and monks living separately in different enclosures. Here you will also find the Vadstena Castle, “A Living Castle” which serves as a museum, concert hall, opera and a market place. Continue your drive towards Linkoping and in the afternoon arrive to the little town of Soderkoping, which is situated in the province of Ostergotland. There are 14,000 inhabitants living in the village, half of them in the old lovely houses which stretch along narrow alleys and cobbled streets. Day 7 Soderkoping
After breakfast the entire day is at your disposal. The Gota Canal passes through Soderkoping under the brows of the Ramunderberget Hill. The canal was completed in 1832 and was earlier an important transport route. In the summer the Canal Harbor and the lock in central Soderkoping are full of cafes, craft shops and restaurants. Do not forget to visit “Smultronstallet” the largest ice cream cafe in Sweden. Dinner and overnight Soderkopings Brunn Hotel.

Day 8 Soderkoping-Flen
After breakfast depart Soderkoping to Flen with a stop in nearby Norrkoping on the way. Norrkoping is known as the “Small City with the Big Heart.” Among the interesting sights is the wonderful architecture and the impressive promenades, the City Hall, with its panoramic view of the city from its tower, and the medieval Ostra-Eneby Church. Arrive in Flen and check into the Yxtaholm Castle Hotel which dates from 1759. Dinner and overnight at this historical hotel located in beautiful surroundings right on the waterfront.

Day 9 Flen-Gripsholm Castle-Flen
Today we suggest a visit to the famous Gripsholm Castle built in 1537 and situated in the small town of Mariefred, on the shores of Lake Malaren. Gripsholm today is a sampler of Swedish interior design from the 16th to the late 19th centuries. It houses a unique collection of furniture and decorative arts from 400 years. The castle is also known for its outstanding collection of portraits, the Swedish national collection, featuring prominent Swedes from the days of Gustav Vasa to the present. Day 10 Flen-Stockholm-Flen
Today is reserved for the Swedish capital, Stockholm. You can drive into town or you may park the car at the Flen rail station and take the train, a 1 hour journey. Stockholm is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful national capitals in the world. The Old Town in summer is particularly spectacular. The city’s royal residences include the largest palace in the world that is still in use. Dinner and overnight at the Yxtaholm Hotel.

Day 11 Flen-Arlanda Airport

Day 3 Tallberga

Day 4 Tallberga-Nusnas-Mora-Filipstad
After breakfast drive to Nusnas to see how the famous red Dala Horses are carved and painted. Continue to Mora and pay a visit to the interesting Anders Zorn Museum and see how the Swedish artist lived and worked. Continue to Filipstad and the Hennikehammar Manor house. This lovely old manor house was built in 1722 and is family owned. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Filipstad-Mariestad-Hjo-Vissingo-Toftaholm
After breakfast continue south passing Kristinehamn on Lake Vanern, the largest Lake in Sweden. Drive along Lake Vanern passing the fertile countryside to the idyllic town of Mariestad which was founded in 1583 and is named after Marie of Phalzthe wife of Count Carl IX. Take a walk around the old town and visit the charming church. Continue east to Lake Vattern and the picturesque fishing village of Hjo. A beautiful drive along the waterfront with views of the island of Vissingo, known for its many Viking burial sites. Pass the city of Jonkoping to Varnamo and the Romantic Toftaholm Manor house Hotel located deep in the forest facing a little lake. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 6 Toftaholm-Glass Kingdom-Toftaholm
A full day excursion to the interesting Kingdom of Crystal. Visit the world famous glass factories of Orrefors and Kosta Boda. We suggest you also visit the lesser known brands and find some great bargains. Continue to Vaxjo where you will find the interesting immigrant museum. Return to Toftaholm for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 Toftaholm-Malmo-Copenhagen
This morning drive towards Malmo for a look around this large city across the sea from Copenhagen. Cross the new bridge to the Danish capital Copenhagen. Return car. Dinner at the famous Tivoli Gardens and overnight Hotel D’Angleterre

Itinerary

Day 1 Stockholm
Self transfer to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to relax or visit one of the city’s many museums. Overnight Hotel Hasselbacken.

Day 2 Stockholm-Karlstad
After a hearty breakfast self transfer to the express bus station which is located next to the central rail station. A pleasant bus ride brings you through the fertile countryside of Sweden to Karlstad, the capital of Varmland County and is beautifully located on the shore of Lake Vanern. Self transfer to your hotel with the rest of the day at leisure to take a walk through the charming city center where you can admire the many pretty buildings built in the last century. Day 3 Karlstad-Borlange-Falun
New experiences await you when you continue your journey by express bus along the Klara River, past small towns, villages and forests to Borlange. Change bus and continue to Falun. Self transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon we suggest a visit to the Copper Museum. Copper is the color that Swedish country houses are based. Overnight First Hotel Grand Falun

Day 4 Falun
After breakfast we suggest the local bus ride to the village of Nusnas for a visit to the Nils Olsson Workshop to see how the famous Dala Horses are carved and decorated. Take a walk around the village to admire the lovely old Dalecarlia houses. You may also visit the home of the famous Swedish artist Carl Larsson in nearby Sundborn. Overnight First Hotel Grand Falun

Day 5 Falun-Stockholm
Self transfer to the rail station for your train return to Stockholm. You will pass many charming towns such as Rattvik, Hedemora and Uppsala. End of services upon arrival in Stockholm. Additional nights in Stockholm can be added.
