Ilulissat-You will get familiar with a modern Greenlandic town north of the Polar Circle, experience the unique Disko Bay. Calving Glaciers & Gigantic Icebergs: Majestic Icebergs floats in the fiord right outside the town and are experienced at close range on a Midnight Cruise or during full day excursions where you can cruise close to the impressive glacier of Eqip. Home Visit: Get in contact with the local population and learn more about their everyday life.

Qeqertarsuaq-on the Disko Bay is situated in beautiful surroundings at the base of a high basalt field that originates from a lava flow, millions of years old. The volcanoes are inactive but there are still hundreds of hot springs on the island that give the island a unique flora and fauna. Because of these natural phenomenon Copenhagen University has a research station in Qeqertasuaq, which today appears like a living museum. Dog sledge tour: Traveling by dog sledge under the midnight sun. This truly special experience takes place on a glacier at a height of approximately 800 m on the mountains behind the town. Hiking to the top of the mountain is rewarded by a fantastic view of Disko Bay and the icebergs of Ilulissat 100 km away.

Itinerary

Day 1 Ilulissat
Fly from either Copenhagen or Reykjavik to Ilulissat. Upon arrival you will be met and taken to your hotel. Later you will have an information meeting and city walk with guide of the town. Dinner and overnight Hotel Arctic.

Day 2 Ilulissat-Qeqertarsuaq
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the harbor. By boat across the Disko Bay to Qeqertarsuaq. Transfer to the hotel for check-in, welcome meeting and city walk with guide. Overnight Hotel Disko.

Day 3 Qeqertarsuaq
Breakfast at the hotel. Guided hike in the Arctic landscape behind the town. Overnight Hotel Disko.

Day 4 Qeqertarsuaq-Ilulissat
Breakfast at the hotel. Time to visit Project Living Settlement before transfer to the harbor. By boat to Ilulissat. Transfer from the harbor to hotel for check-in. Dinner and overnight Hotel Arctic.

Day 5 Ilulissat
Day at leisure. You may opt to take one of our optional excursions. Overnight Hotel Arctic.

Day 6 Ilulissat
Day at leisure. You may opt to take one of our optional excursions. Overnight Hotel Arctic.

Day 7 Ilulissat-End of Tour
Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast transfer to the airport. Flight by Air Iceland from Ilulissat to Reykjavik Domestic Airport or on Air Greenland to Copenhagen. Hotel nights in Reykjavik or Copenhagen can be added.

Ilulissat:

Icebergs of Sermermiut-3 hours-DKK 350 per person including refreshment-Drive as far as the road goes. A short walk to Sermermiut where traces from the 4 old Eskimo cultures still can be seen. Sermermiut is a fertile valley next to the Ice Fjord, here you can enjoy flowers as well as the fantastic Icebergs.

Hunters Settlement-6 hours-DKK 1350 per person-You will travel by boat to the small settlement Oqaitsut/Rodebay whose population of 80 totally depend on fishing and hunting. Guided walk through the village before lunch, which will be served at the old trading station.

Midnight Cruise to the Ice Fjord-3 hours-DKK 700 per person-The midnight sun and the warm red colors reflecting the gigantic icebergs is a fantastic sight. Cruise between the icebergs and enjoy a late Martini on “the real rocks.”

Home Visit-2 hours-DKK 200 per person-Visit a Greenland home, enjoy the coffee milk (a cup of coffee which by tradition is served to all visitors), and learn about Greenland and its people.

Helicopter to the Ice Fjord-20 minute flying time-DKK 1550 per person: From Ilulissat fly over the mountains and fjord systems before you reach the Ilulissat Ice Fjord, which is now on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Eqip-The Calving Glacier & Inut Settlement Ataa-8 hours-DKK 2250 per person-Cruise in front of the 5-km wide glacier for approx. one hour and hope for the unique sight of an iceberg �delivery�. Afterwards continue to the former trading station and Inuit settlement Ataa where you will enjoy a delicious 2 course lunch including a glass of wine.

Fishing Tour-1300 DKK per person- 4 hour tour including lunch-Sail to the fishing spot of the day, most probably near Bredebugt or at the mouth of the Ilulissat Ice Fjord. While waiting for your catch you have time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. By the end of the day you will hopefully bring home different sorts of fish like cod, halibut, red fish and catfish

Feeding the Huskies-200 DKK per person-1 hour tour-Ilulissat is a sledge-area and the approximately 3500 dogs in town are still used for both work and fun every winter. You are invited to join the feeding of a dog team. You can see, feel, touch and most of all hear the howling of 20 hungry dogs. The owner will demonstrate the sledge and the harness and tell about life as a sledge dog in Greenland. Good shoes advised!

Whale Safari-1000 DKK per person including lunch box-5 hour tour-By boat you go out into the Disko Bay to spot whales. In the summer time humpback whales come to the Disko Bay to feed on the capelin, a small herring-like fish. As the humpback whales are protected they are very trusting and can often be enjoyed at close range. However, as this is not a zoo there is of course no guarantee for seeing the whales.

Hunters Settlement-IIimanaq-1350 DKK per person including lunch-6 hour tour-By boat to the settlement of Ilimanaq, which is situated just south of the Kangia Ice Fjord. Ilimanaq has a population of around 80 persons mainly depending upon fishing and hunting. A completely different world compared to the town of Ilulissat. Upon arrival to Ilimanaq you will be taken on a guided tour of the settlement before enjoying your lunch with a local family. This tour can also be operated by night with a small surcharge of DKK 250 per person.

Sightseeing flight over Ilulissat Ice fiord-1 hour tour-DKK 2695 per person-sightseeing flights and photo safari in a 5 seats quiet and comfortable aircraft. Fly in low altitude to the very end of Ilulissat Ice Fjord. After flying above the glacier front and getting as close to it as safety allows head towards the underwater moraine in front of Ilulissat, where you can enjoy breathtaking view of huge icebergs and sky-blue lakes on the top of them. Qasigiannguit: Experiencing the old inuit way of life-6-7 hour tour-DKK 2275 per person including lunch-Go on a guided day trip to the beautiful town of Qasigiannguit. Every Sunday enjoy a boat sailing to the old town, for a day of exploring the old Thule culture. Qasigiannguit is located in the eastern corner of the Disko Bay. It is one of the oldest towns in Greenland and has around 1200 inhabitants. Enjoy lunch at the hotel and a city tour before delving into the old Thule culture. Project Living Settlement is a group of local volunteers who manufacture tools, leather clothes and household items based on the scientific knowledge of the Thule culture. Women’s boats and kayaks are put in the water, and the group, wearing Inuit clothes, gets ready to take their audience on a summer day trip just like a Thule Family in the 1700s. You are invited to play, work and eat before returning to the present.

Hike on the Cecily Trail-7-8 hour tour-DKK 1000 per person including packed lunch-drive to the airport where you start your full day hike north along the coast. Discover different Arctic plants and beautiful icebergs floating in the Disko Bay. Your guide tells you about the Cecily trail, named after an annual run from Rodebay to Ilulissat. It is commonly used both by locals and tourists for dog sledding in winter and trekking tours in summer. Don�t forget to enjoy the silence or use your time taking photos and collecting flowers. Depending on weather conditions the tour aims to make it to Bredebugt, where the locals have their summer cottages. If you want to experience a real Arctic adventure, how about a quick dip in the ice cold waters of a nearby lake? Hiking boots and mosquito net advised. You have to be in good physical shape to participate in this tour.

Rodebay Kayak Masterclass-6 hour tour including 2 hours kayaking-DKK 2.500 including packed lunch-A unique opportunity to try your hand at kayaking with a local instructor. Kayaking has been a vital way of hunting in the Arctic for centuries and this tour will give you the opportunity to navigate amongst the icebergs like an Inuit hunter! No previous experience needed as your instructor will be with you at all times. All equipment and clothing included. The tour includes boat transfer to/from Ilulissat.

Qeqertarsuaq:

Hike to Bl�sedalen-2-3 hour tour-DKK 300 per person-Hiking trip to the waterfall at Bl�sedalen The Disko Island is an evidence of former volcanic activity 55-65 million years ago. The larger part of “the Great Island”, which is the meaning of Qeqertarsuaq in English, consists of dark, high and steep mountains of basalt. On this 2-3 hours hiking trip to the Bl�sedalen, you have ample opportunity to experience volcanic scenery and the characteristic and beautiful Qorlortorsuaq waterfall.

Dogsledge tour at the Lyngmark Glacier-10-12 hour tour-DKK 1895 per person including lunch and dinner-This trip starts out at 9 am from “Kongebroen”. From here you go on a short boat trip to the other site of the harbor, from where the hike to the Lyngmark Glacier starts out. A guide will show you the way and makes sure, that everybody is safe on the track. When you reach the huts at the top lunch will be served. During the afternoon the sledge rides take place, each of them with a duration of 1� hours. After dinner, which consists of some Greenlandic food the guide will show the way down the mountain again, and the trip ends with a short boat trip back to town. Please note:you have to be in good physical condition to join this tour.

Whale watching-6 hour tour-DKK 1175 per person-Whale watching onboard a fishing boat, with ample opportunity to take pictures of whales. At the beginning of the season, follow the Bowhead whale, and later during the summer it is the Humpback whales that impress with their astonishing agility.
