Visit the northernmost capital in the world. Iceland’s oldest settlement is now a modern and vibrant city with a wide selection of restaurants, nightclubs and shops. Reykjavik was first settled in the late 9th century by Iceland’s first settler Ingolfur Arnason, who gave the place its name Reykjavik, meaning “Smoky Bay,” because of its hot springs, now used to heat houses and the city’s many outdoor pools.
